More of the Wonders of Portugal

Let’s continue our journey and discover more of the wonders of Portugal.

1 and 2. See previous post Discover the Wonders of Portugal.

3. Proceed to the capital city and do the following:
- visit the Monastery of Jerónimos and the Torre de Belém, two essential monuments that have marked the history of Lisbon and Portugal
- visit the monuments listed: the National Palace of Pena in Sintra, the National Palace of Queluz, the Convent and Basilica of Mafra, the Monasteries of Alcobaça and Batalha, Almourol castle, the Convent of Christ in Tomar and Óbidos castle.

4. Continue your journey to the south. Some things to do here would be:
- visit the hilltop walled towns of Marvão or Monsaraz
- explore the Roman temple in Évora and the Ducal Palace in Vila Viçosa.

5. Finally, your discovery ends with a trip to Portuguese heritage sites
- the Fortress of Sagres, and more.

Discover the Wonders of Portugal

Portugal is a country in the western part of Europe bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and Spain.

According to the Portugal official tourism website, here are some sights you can explore to discover the wonders of Portugal:

1. Start at Oporto and the northern part and visit the following monuments:
- Guimarães Castle, the birthplace of Portugal
- the Church of São Francisco and the Torre dos Clérigos, two ex-libris monuments in Oporto with examples of Portuguese baroque style architecture
- the Palace of Mateus, near to the city of Vila Real.

2. Continue your trip to the center of Portugal and do the following:
- visit the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest in Europe
- visit Conímbriga and see the Roman ruins that date back to the time of the Roman occupation of the Iberian peninsular.
